As an attorney/mediator with over 12 years of experience, I have dedicated my practice to supporting families through transitions. While navigating legal issues can be incredibly stressful and overwhelming, it can also be an opportunity for personal growth and transformation. My approach is to guide you through these challenging times and complex issues with empathy, clarity, and expertise.
I am committed to the success of your family as a whole, while striving to minimize conflict and reduce trauma. My practice is rooted in facilitating agreements that are based on transparency, integrity, and understanding. I view my role as ensuring that you have realistic expectations related to your matter, the support you need to be a part of co-authoring them, and the tools to thrive beyond them.
Re-Writing the Playbook for Resolution
From an early age, I was always fascinated with the law and the legal system. The idea of being an advocate for others (the Latin origin of the word advocate means "to be called to speak for”) resonated as a true calling for me. Over the years, I have witnessed the lasting emotional and financial trauma that courtroom battle inflicts on everyone involved. We have an archaic system, entrenched so deeply in a pattern of adversarial practice, that you almost lose sight of the light it was meant to represent. It doesn’t have to be this way.
Early in my career while working for a litigation firm, I was faced with a profound moral tipping point. After successfully mediating three out of four complex family cases in a week, I was told to stop settling cases because resolving conflict early meant less money for the firm. That moment changed me. I recognized that traditional law and its practice is built to extract wealth by escalating conflict and exploit grief and I vowed to always honor a professional philosophy of do no harm.
I also realized how damaging the practice of litigation was to myself. When you are constantly exposed to a battering of conflict, pain, stress, and anger, it wears you down and starts to chip away at your soul. That was when I made the conscious decision to stop practicing litigation and transitioned purely to a collaborative, cooperative, unbundled model of legal advisement and mediation. The change has been ethereal and restorative. After leaving my role as a Partner and Director of Legal Operations for a firm in Boulder, I chose to forge my own path. I have been inspired by a thriving community of badass female entrepreneurs who believe businesses and practitioners should build communities up, not tear them down. I founded Rooted Resolutions, LLC to offer a deliberate sanctuary from the adversarial cycle and spread the word that there is another way to do things.
Founder, Attorney/Mediator
Janette M. Jordan, Esq.
My practice is primarily centered around 3 service models: Mediation, Estate Planning, and Legal Advisement.
These matters cover a broad spectrum of family law issues for both pre and post-decree, including divorce, legal separation, common law marriage, maintenance (spousal support), allocation of parental rights, parenting time, child support, modifications, pre/post marital agreements, cohabitation agreements, preparing powers of attorney, advance directives (living wills), last will & testaments, final disposition instructions, pet care directives, parental delegation of powers, trusts, etc.
I won't sugarcoat the process—getting to a settlement takes effort—but I will make sure you are never doing that work alone. The only outcome that can be guaranteed, is the one that you are willing to work at and be a part of and reach together. I am not here to fight a battle for you while you stand on the sidelines; I am here to help you rise to the challenge of building a resolution that actually works for and is customized to you and your family system. With a focus on both maximizing your financial resources and honoring the emotional facets, I am here to help you navigate these complexities with confidence and care.
How Can I Support You?
Life Beyond the Office
When I’m not serving my clients, I fully embrace the chaos of motherhood with my two littles. It is important to keep a balance between work and what we are all working for, which is why my practice has limited hours and a set cap on the number of active cases that I will accept. I want to ensure that you get the best version of me at all times and to do that, I’m learning (as we all are), to give myself some space, grace, and intentional scheduling boundaries.
I have been a Boulder area resident since 1999, I hold a degree in Psychology from the University of Colorado and a Juris Doctorate from Washburn School of Law. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband, our two daughters, our rescue dog, and supporting the Buffs and the Broncos during football season!
