COLLABORATIVE LAW

United in Resolution Outside of Court

What Collaborative Law is. Divorce does not have to mean a battle. It does not have to be intrinsically adversarial (although that’s the unfortunate tried and true prevailing method held by many). You can choose to divorce differently and with intention. Collaborative Law is a formal, specialized legal process designed for couples who want independent legal representation but are strictly committed to staying out of court.

My Role. In this formal capacity, I formally represent you as your collaborative attorney, working alongside your spouse and their collaboratively trained lawyer. Before we begin, everyone signs a formal participation agreement pledging that we will resolve all disputes respectfully and transparently, without ever handing your family's future over to a judge.

In an informal capacity, this is how I chose to practice regardless of the other side. If there is ever an opportunity for parties to work together to exit the relationship with the same care as they entered into it with, I want to honor that. I don’t ever want the fact that I represent one spouse to be viewed as an escalation or create an impediment to settlement.

What this looks like. This framework is built entirely around structured, cooperative negotiation. If either party changes their mind and chooses to pursue traditional litigation, both collaborative attorneys must legally withdraw from the case. This built-in guardrail aligns everyone's incentives toward a peaceful resolution, ensuring your energy and resources are spent on building a stable foundation for the future rather than funding a legal war, where only litigation attorneys will benefit.
